Orthodox monasteries in Montenegro

Reževići Monastery is located on the picturesque and green plateau above the sea coast near Petrovac.

Monastery temple was built by Stefan the First Crowned in the 13th century and is dedicated to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Another temple, according to tradition was built by Emperor Dusan in the 14th century and is dedicated to St. Stephen. In the middle of the sixteenth century, both temples were destroyed and pillaged. In 1714 prior Maksim Kosijerevac arrived from Kosijerevo to this monastery, and he has renewed both churches  and founded a monastery. His work continued by Nikodim Vukovic who in 1770 erected a larger church dedicated to the Holy Trinity which was fully completed by the monk Dimitrije  Perazić in 1814. One of the preserved cultural and historical treasures in the Monastery is the icon of Holy Virgin from the year 1693.

Praskvica monastery
The original foundations of the monastery date back to 1050. It was named after a nearby stream, which has had a taste like peach (praskve). The monastery appears in written sources in 1307, when King Milutin stopped by on his way to Kotor. On this occasion King Milutin confirmed the possessions of the monastery, already assigned to it by Queen Jelena of Anjou. Lord of Zeta, Balša III Balšić, with its nobility Paštrovići built the church of St. Nicholas here in 1413 giving her a part of his holdings. Since the second half of the eighteenth century, the Russian Empress Catherine II, was constantly financially helping this monastery. Paštrović family resisted Napoleon's troops during their occupation of the coastal region due to the abolition of privileges they had under Venetian republic, which resulted in monastery being looted, part of the archives destroyed and church of St. Nicholas demolished. Thanks to contributions from the people of this region, in 1847, the church of St. Nicholas was rebuilt and today houses in its treasury priceless items, such as Emperor Dusan golden cross, which was transferred from the Visoki Decani to be preserved, the chalice of the Russian Emperor Paul, the Gospel manuscript dating from 1600 by Gavrilo Cetinjac, donated by Bishop Danilo, priceless frescoes and icons, about 5,000 books and so on. Famous Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic and and his wife Jelena (born Ristić) were married in this monastery on July 12th, 2014.

Savina Monastery is located next to Herceg Novi, surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation in one of the most beautiful parts of the northern Montenegrin coast. The monastery consists of three churches: A small church of Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Great Temple of Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Temple of Saint Sava by which the monastery is named.
A small church of the Dormition of the Holy Virgin is very small, only ten meters long and six meters wide. Probably dates from the year 1030, although the oldest record in which the monastery was mentioned is dated from 1648. Its reconstruction began in the late 17th century, with the arrival of refugee monks from the monastery Tvrdoš (Herzegovina), and was completed in 1831.
There is a large number of relics in this monastery, which date from the time of Nemanjić dinasty (relics of Empress Helena, St. Sava cross), including those transferred from the monastery Tvrdoš.
Temple of Saint Sava, which was built by Saint Sava himself is located outside the monastery complex. The Great Temple of the Dormition of the Holy Virgin was built between 1777 and 1799th.
